Black Lives Matter

I know a lot of people are taking photos of the protests right now but I wanted to highlight a different message that really spoke to me. That is people hanging signs from their homes. Seems simple enough but I think it speaks volumes to the children of our communities who are walking around their neighborhoods. Most children aren’t attending protests and I’m sure some parents aren’t showing their kids the news. So to the kids who are all home from school and going on their afternoon quarantine walk, they are seeing these signs on people’s homes and learning. They are asking questions about what that sign means and how come so many neighbors have it on their homes. Kids absorb everything. Hopefully these messages can help bring around a new realization of love and understanding for our children and ourselves.

I thought this last image was powerful because I saw these signs the day before in Silverlake, CA. These 3 signs were all standing up in someone’s yard and there was a large sign hanging from someone’s house across the street. The following morning, these signs were uprooted and the sign across the street was gone. It made me wonder if someone was mad and removed them. It made me wonder if someone would vandalize the sign I put in my own window in Hollywood. There is a risk when anyone partakes in this movement. Whether you are protesting in the street or standing in solidarity from your home.

A hope is that when people are continuously spreading the black lives matter message, the people on the other side feel out numbered in their bias and racism and hopefully learn to change.
